The story I told in the video had some minor embellishments, and since you went through the trouble of finding this secret web address, I feel like you've earned the true story.
I was an animation student at USC's School of Cinematic Arts that had already completed four years of study and finished my thesis film, but entirely neglected to obtain an unpaid animation internship which was technically a requirement for graduation. Silly me.
One of my professors specifically mentioned Alex Clark Studios as a good fit for me, so I assumed she knew him personally. Turns out Alex had never heard of her. Then she was fired. I dunno what happened there.
Anyway, I really wanted to learn Toon Boom Harmony (the program Alex uses) so I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to learn. After interviewing with him and completing an animation test, he picked me up for an internship! There weren't any flying saucers involved, nor did I actually murder his sister. His babysitter is still 14, though.
I created the entire episode over the holiday break when I wouldn't be seeing Alex for a couple weeks. I covertly stole the rigs for Alex, his sister, and the babysitter, but I had to make everything else (backgrounds, effects, etc.) from scratch. I really wanted to personally complete every step in the process of making one of these videos, just out of my own personal curiosity. It also gave me an excuse to hide from my family.
I bought myself a vanity journal even though I rarely draw non-digitally, but I used it to conceptualize the sister's saucer! I'm also a big fan of my own dumb logo. I'm sticking that thing on everything.
I really wanted the saucer to have multiple arms and "walk" (rather than fly) through the city. Then my H. G. Wells reference would make more sense. Once I gave myself a rocket, though, I really needed to make the saucer capable of flight too (since I could just fly straight up to escape). It had the added benefit of being way easier to animate.
